Combined sewer systems are sewers that are designed to collect rainwater runoff, domestic sewage, and industrial wastewater in the same pipe. During periods of heavy rainfall or snowmelt, the wastewater volume in a combined sewer system can exceed the capacity of the sewer system or treatment plant. Hence, the need for solutions that can respond quickly and remove high levels of contaminants from storm water and wastewater.

Even more cost effective is to combine CoMag™’s CSO and tertiary treatment capability into one system: in normal operations, CoMag™ can operate as a tertiary treatment plant; in storm conditions, CoMag™ can operate as a CSO plant. 

For older cities with combined storm and sanitary sewers, CoMag™ can be a far less expensive and more effective solution to the challenge of CSO than re-plumbing to separate the sanitary and storm water systems.
